QUICK SSL FIX – Site is not fully secure – Issues converting your WordPress to SSL
After recently setting up and installing a SSL certificate on a clients WordPress website via the cPanel. I noticed in the browser it showed a i with a circle around it. On clicking on the i it told me that “Your connection to this site is not fully secure” Attackers might be able to see the images you’re looking at on this site and trick you by modifying them.
Well, that’s not nice to see. It will influence everyone to press the back button and get outta there even though there is a valid SSL certificate on the site. We need to see a green padlock and no issues so visitors can rest assured and browse safely throughout the site.
MIXED CONTENT ERROR
This is a mixed content error and it means that the SSL/HTTPS in the url is working on some pages but images, scripts or stylesheets are loading using the old HTTP.
The fastest and easiest way to fix this is to go to your WordPress dashboard. Then Settings – General and in the fields where it says your ‘Wordpress Address (URL)’ and ’Site Address (URL)’ . Make sure you replace HTTP with HTTPs and save these options.
BETTER SEARCH REPLACE PLUGIN
Next, install a plugin called ‘Better Search Replace’. Once installed (you will find it in ‘Tools’ – Better Search Replace, in the ‘search’ field, add your url with http. Then, in the replace field add your URL again but this time with HTTPS.
The plugin will run and swap any instance with http://www.yourdomain.com with https://www.yourdomain.com in your sites database.
This should solve the issues and purge your cache if you have a cache plugin and view your site in the browser to see the nice and safe green padlock. The SSL certificate is fully loaded now on all urls.
If you are still seeing a ‘mixed content’ error then using Chromes or your browsers inspect tool will reveal any further issues.
